Are you using the right litter bins?

Litter is a problem for many councils and local authorities. It’s unsightly, unsanitary and it costs local authorities hundreds of thousands of pounds to deal with each year.

Choosing the right litter bin is critical and there’s really no one size fits all approach. Different sizes and styles of bin will be suitable for different locations and purposes. However, there are some factors worth considering when purchasing new litter bins for your park, high street or public spaces.

• Aperture size - this needs to be large enough for litter to be deposited, but small enough to prevent rubbish escaping due to weather conditions or vandalism. 
• Location – do you have space for a large bin or are you restricted for space - in which case a slimmer or wall mounted bin might be more suitable? 
• Visibility – people need to be able to spot a litter bin easily so signage and colour are important. Bins don’t have to be black or grey. You can choose a more vibrant colour and really make them stand out.
