FM World and Amberol - how floral displays can transform a venue

Amberol’s managing Director Patience Atkinson-Gregory was recently featured in FM World magazine explaining how floral displays can enhance and transform a range of public spaces from leisure centres to schools to railway stations. FM World is the news and information service of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) which provides news and views from a wide range of industry sectors.

Making a great first impression

In the article, Patience talks about how first impressions count when managing a venue or a place where the general public go and spend time. She looks at why self-watering planters may often be a better choice than more traditional flower beds. In the article Patience also explains why some planters are more robust and a better choice than others, explaining the pros and cons of using different kinds of planters from the perspective of aesthetics and durability.

Finally, the article offers real life examples of how Amberol’s self-watering planters have transformed two different venues: the Sixth Form College in Farnborough and the award-winning Ripon Racecourse

Ripon Racecourse

“People come to the racecourse for a day out and for special events, so it’s important that the environment looks good. We spend a lot time and effort planting up self-watering containers which help us create the wow factor. They use around one seventh of the water that we previously used. Watering less frequently has also reduced our labour and associated costs.”  Head Groundsman Carl Tonks.

The Sixth Form College Farnborough

“The planters improve the aesthetics by adding colour and drawing the eye away from the brickwork.  The floral displays also help promote a sense of pride in our College.  We feel that they help create a calmer and happier ethos as well as demonstrating that we value our environment. In fact, the displays are often a talking point for visitors.” Head Groundsman Trevor Hopkins.
