Halton in Bloom has created a beautiful and tranquil well-being garden for local residents to come together again after the Covid-19 lockdowns.
The Halton in Bloom community group who have recently celebrated their 10th year anniversary is run by a fantastic group of volunteers who undertake most of the work supported by many others in the community who regularly water, litter pick, donate plants, sponsor and attend their events.

Alison Varley, a member of the Halton in Bloom group said:
“We were aware of how the Covid-19 lockdowns had a negative impact on local residents and we wanted to create a calm and welcoming well-being garden to bring the community back together again. We were successful in obtaining grants towards the cost of the plants, planters and benches.”

Halton in Bloom chose sensory planting for their new well-being garden to stimulate the senses explains Alison Varley.
“We planted stachys (lamb’s ears) for its velvety softness, lavender, rosemary and salvias for their scent, grasses that rustle in the breeze and restful shades of greens and purples. With nature in mind, we selected plants and flowers beneficial to pollinators and provide food and habitats for wildlife.”

Amberol’s self-watering Promenade large floor standing planters and New Precinct Fountain Tiered Planters created an abundant of standout floral displays in the well-being area for local residents. As well as the newly created green wall covering the bricks with vibrant foliage using Amberol’s Window Boxes.
Amberol’s mission is to make a positive environmental impact by saving water with its self-watering planter range and the unique self-watering system, AquafeedTM does exactly that.
Halton in Bloom used Amberol’s self-watering Window Boxes for their new green wall and adapted their guttering to allow rainwater to fill the planters to help conserve mains water as well as saving time watering. They are constantly reviewing what plants work on the green wall and so far, ivy is the most resilient.

The Halton in Bloom group have received many lovely comments from residents about their new well-being garden and Alison Varley shares a few of them.
“My little boy loves to feel the lamb’s ears on his way to nursery.”
“I like to have lunch away from my computer screen and this is the perfect spot!”
“It’s a long walk home from the shops so this bench is lovely to rest on and the flowers look beautiful.”
