Wildlife Trusts' Green Community Grants available for projects transforming local spaces with nature

Wildlife Trusts' Green Community Grants available for projects transforming local spaces with nature

Communities across England, Scotland and Wales have another opportunity to secure funding for environmental improvement projects through the Green Community Grants Programme from The Wildlife Trusts.

With grants of up to £25,000 available through this one-year flexible funding programme, the fund aims to support charities and community groups whose work contributes to nature recovery, responds to the climate emergency or improves access to nature-rich spaces.

For many organisations, this could provide an opportunity to enhance public spaces, support outdoor learning, improve habitats and create greener, more welcoming places for local communities.

Key dates

The next application window for the Green Community Grants Programme is:

30 September to 21 October 2026.

Organisations interested in applying should begin planning their projects now to ensure they are ready when applications open.

Who can apply?

The funding is available to not-for-profit organisations that:

  • Have an annual income between £10,000 and £1 million.
  • Have been operating for at least 12 months.
  • Are based in England, Scotland or Wales.

Grants are awarded through a one-year flexible funding programme, helping organisations deliver projects that make a positive environmental and community impact.

What are the funders looking for?

The programme is focused on supporting organisations whose aims and objectives align with one of two key themes:

  • Contributing to nature recovery and responding to the climate emergency.
  • Improving nature-rich spaces and access to them.

Whilst organisations should align with one of these themes, funding can also support a wider range of sustainable and environmentally beneficial activities, including recycling initiatives, litter picking campaigns, beach cleans and sustainable transport projects.

What projects can be funded?

Organisations whose aims align with the programme's funding themes may be able to use funding for a wide range of environmental and community-focused activities, including:

  • Community gardening projects
  • Habitat improvement schemes
  • Recycling initiatives
  • Litter picking campaigns
  • Beach cleans
  • Outdoor education activities
  • Sustainable transport projects

Whether you're revitalising a neglected public space, enhancing local biodiversity or creating new opportunities for community engagement, funding may help bring your ideas to life where they contribute to the programme's objectives.
